Prof. Martin Ifeanacho
Colleague

My entire family will always remain grateful to Emeritus Professor and Dr. Mark Anikpo. I graduated from University College Cork Ireland with 2nd Class Upper Division in Sociology in 1980. When I returned to Nigeria, I registered for a PhD program in the Department of Sociology, University of Port Harcourt where I met Professor M.O.C. Anikpo. I was majoring in Institutional Analysis while he was the lead lecturer in Development yet, I found myself attending all lectures in development. His lectures were entertaining, participatory, challenging, illuminating, and educating. His lectures were transmitted unequivocally in simple and lucid language. The sincerity of purpose characteristic of his personality endeared him to us. There was no hidden agenda in anything for him. I remember vividly his instruction “Look Ifeanacho, ask yourself how can I say this thing so that no one will ask what do you mean? Then say it”. His patience with students was unimaginable. He will encourage you to write your thesis and submit to him even if you thought you were writing nonsense. Then he will add “ I will help you make sense out of it”
He was not my supervisor however he read my Thesis and made significant corrections. When you describe leaders as honourable people who train themselves out of office Emeritus Prof. M.O.C Anikpo fits squarely. He founded The Centre for Peace and Security Studies at the University of Port Harcourt. He was the Pioneer Director. Subsequently, four Directors, all trained by him including my humble self, have occupied the position and performed credibly.
Exemplary and Distinguished Emeritus Professor, by rolling out the drums today we are only giving honour to whom it is due. God has blessed humanity through you. May you celebrate many more years in good health and prosperity. Bravo.

ANIKPO’S FAMILY BLESSED WITH GOD’S GRACE.

Eighty and seventy years of love, partnership, and shared faith stand as a remarkable testament to God’s enduring grace in your lives. Your family, friends, and all who know you are deeply inspired by the way you have built a home overflowing with kindness, laughter, and unwavering support—
A home where every visitor is welcomed like family, greeted with warm smiles, delightful delicacies, and the sweetest treats that make every heart feel instantly at home.
As you celebrate these extraordinary milestones, may this promise fill your hearts with renewed joy:
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
They will grow like a cedar of Lebanon.
planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish in the courts of our God.”
— Psalm 92:12–13
May these words remind you of the abundant life God has so richly bestowed upon you both. We pray that the years ahead continue to be filled with good health, cherished memories, and the warmth of loved ones near and far.
Here’s to many more years of love, laughter, open doors, and shared blessings!

With heartfelt congratulations,
THE ONYIDOS

Dr. Stanley Boroh
Former Student

I want to celebrate Prof and his lovely wife for the many lives they have impacted positively. Prof was the reason I still remained in the Department as a student because we were told we couldn’t do Sociology due to the fact that we wrote Maths in Jamb. A few of us went to meet Prof at Delta Park, we told him our plight and he immediately called the Dean then Prof Okowa and said Hi Willy, it’s me Mark and the rest is history.

Thank you sir for your simplicity, humane nature and love for humanity. God bless you Sir.

Wow!!!!Today!! in short this night, I join in spirit and in joy to celebrate not just the passing of time, but the beauty of lives exceptionally lived, and a union gracefully sustained through the decades.

Your lives are a testimony that love, when grounded in shared values and mutual growth, can flourish across seasons.

As you celebrate this double blessing – 80 and 70 years of individual greatness, and decades of shared joy – I, like your many admirers, join in thanksgiving for the gift of your lives.
